10 Years Welcome to the Future Festival

Welcome To The Future 10 jaar!

It’s 1992. Waves of new music are rolling over Europe. Beat-driven sounds going by the still mysterious names of House and Techno. In Amsterdam, a small group of pioneers believes this is the music of the new generation, this is the sound that will take over the world.

The famous Paradiso is one of the first big venues to open its doors to these brave souls. Soon, ecstatic and extravagant crowds filled the rooms in the old church and danced away night after night. Welcome to the Future was born.

10 jaar Welcome To The Future

Fast forward to 2007. Things are about to change again. The pioneers, backed by a team of fresh faces, decide to put their heads together again. Pulling strings, convincing the right people and most importantly: finding an untouched location, unseen by the crowds and perfect for what was coming. After 15 years of indoor events, it is time to go outside. The result? One of the first Dutch festivals with a strong focus on electronic music from the underground. Venturing out from the clubs and originating in to the rolling green hills of Het Twiske on a beautiful summer day, 5.000 people dance the day away at 4 different stages.

Now, almost ten years later, Welcome to the Future still stands for the pinnacle of underground House and Techno. From the start, one thing was clear: this festival would be different. Aiming to provide just as big a stage to international stars as to local heroes, several stages are fully programmed with Dutch artists, strongly believing that talent should be nurtured at its birthplace.

The focus isn’t only on music though: a sense of discovery is strongly entwined in the festival principles, either through listening to new, talented artists or by exploring the festival grounds filled with hidden secrets and hideaways. The sheer beauty of Het Twiske has proven itself to be stunning year after year, and an environmentally conscious way of working has become second nature to the team. Today, Welcome to the Future is being recognised as one of the ten greenest festivals in the world (Awarded a Certificate of Excellence by A Greener Festival Award).

Over the years, Welcome to the Future Festival has become a survivor which has stood the test of time. Each edition, a distinct sense of family rises amongst all visitors, artists and crew. A special, colourful vibe, different from other festivals, that drags you along for the ride. A sense of open mindedness, of pure bliss. It’s clear that what’s celebrated here is life in its purest form. And this year, it’s time to praise all that once was and what is yet to come. After a first successful indoor edition at the Warehouse Elementenstraat last November, it’s time to go outside again.

Bursting of energy after the unfortunate cancellation of its 2015 edition, Welcome to the Future prepares itself for an out-of-the-ordinary anniversary edition including some serious birthday happening and as always a carefully selected line up of national and international heroes.
